The Story Incubator is a narrative design laboratory and process developed by Juan Diaz Bohorquez. It’s a intense platform agnostic process designed for the inception, development and financing of media story-worlds for Film, TV or XR , inspire new solutions for ongoing projects or envisions future reality strategies for business and social impact initiatives. It is both a narrative development process as it is a new sustainable and renewable business structure. To break with the common lack of funding in the development process, commercial partners invest in the incubator, not the particular stories and as the process evolves they get to have a privileged position commercially to enter as producer and partners of the most interesting projects that emerge out of the Story Incubator.
As a volumetric process, It is based on the world building principle of having the story at the center and increasing the resolution as new collaborators, funding and commercial partners get attached to the project.
There is a common unbalance in the expenditure in production within the traditional linear production schemes. Reallocating part of that budget for a well funded inception and development process allows more interesting stories to emerge and a better use of the production budget. Making use of virtual production, pre-vizualization technology and rapid prototyping principles the project evolves in a continuous volumetric process until it reaches the audience.
We comprehend the world through narrative. The Laboratory allows a collaborative process, in a limited time frame to use the power of world building and narrative design to create fictional worlds or build the future of our own. It sets the ideal scenario for all the stake holders to be part of the creative process and develop the necessary material for a project to be communicated and financed.
The Story Incubator puts in practice the ‘Ecosystemic Storetelling System” and the world building processes, created and evolved by Juan Diaz Bohorquez in more than 20 years of narrative research with the WBI, experience in film, world building and narrative design, working with partners such as the Berlinale Talents, Eave Producers Network, United Nations Development Program, internationally awarded commercial campaigns, and doing narrative consultancy for film, vr and interactive projects.
